I hate writing, so you had better _ _ _ _ _ _ _ read this!
It’s been a long year already and it seems there is no end in sight.
The misunderstandings we are blessed with from the company are to say the least non- issues and by that I mean issues that should never be brought forward as they are pretty much spelled out in the contract. We waste a lot of time on these.
I’m told that every little thing is a fight now because contract negotiations will be starting. What better way to begin negotiations then to get everyone pissed off, it doesn’t make sense sometimes.
Anyways what I wanted to talk about was SENIORITY and the rights that come with it, and how as of lately it’s coming under attack. It’s funny though, in a way that the people that attack it most, used to be our UNION brothers, and if it were not for that they wouldn’t be where they are today. Amazing isn’t it?
When we switch sides do we forget the basic fundamentals, moral fiber and beliefs that make us who we are? I believe, that just can’t be switched off. Sure everyone has a job to do but that doesn’t mean we can’t work together. This was once “the best” place to work in Saskatchewan, and I think it still can be if we work together. Not squabble over petty things that should never become issues. I was told by a good friend that “a happy work force is a productive work force.”
I realize there is always going to be some differences but I’m sure with a little common sense – oops, there’s that swear word - we should be able to resolve things to benefit both the company and our members.
In closing I would like to say, that SENIORITY is one of the cornerstones of the trade union and it is not to be abused, misused or disrespected. And we must not let it be eroded. We must strive to maintain the principals and fundamentals our forefathers fought so very hard for. Lets stand together and keep what has taken so long to achieve. Our Rights!
