Information Officer Report

During the last week of October, I had the opportunity to go to the Western
Region Communications Conference held in Vancouver.

Eighteen representatives from CEP Locals across western Canada participated in workshops on developing skills on how to communicate better to the membership.

The major topics were newsletter editing and web design and maintenance.

On the newsletter editing portion of the conference we discussed the importance of a typical newsletter contents: i.e. photo placing on newsletters and the web, newsletter layout and production. We also discussed size and publishing frequency of a newsletter.

Above all, I learned that you, the members, have the right to know what is happening in our Local and what the executives are doing on your behalf. Even though all this information can be found by going to the general meetings or visiting our web site, some of our members find themselves uninformed.  I understand that not everybody has access to the Internet and most people are challenged to find time to attend the general Union meetings, so I was sold on the idea that we need to re-start printing our newsletter, The Conciliator.
